Hey everyone.  I want to start running a flag on my yak to increase visibility / safety. Is there currently a NCKA flag avaliale, somethign like a "dune whip" for a dirt bike / atv??

If not there is a local place that can make custom flags, I was thinking it would be really cool to have a flag with the "nor cal ling" logo on it.

what do yall think?

Don't do it without permission from the owner of the logo.

I use Aluminum foil flag hoping that a radar can seem me. A flag that would reflect radar would be cool. I do not know if mylar would reflect radar.

Unfortunately, a 2 dimensional flag flown so close to the water will be very difficult for radars to detect for the following reasons. 1) it must be presented at the correct angle relative to the radar signal for any return signal to be bounced back to the receiver. 2) The gain setting on radar are usually set to filter out reflections from waves. And with your kayak and flag being so low in the water, their return signals will most likely be filtered out. That is why boats carry their 3 dimensional radar reflectors high on their masts.

My flag was about 7 ft in the air. And it is better than nothing. The owner Harold of Davis Boats said it was more safe than nothing. We have a lot of PB traffic where our Lings hang out.

By broadband radar picks up items as low as a kayak without too much problem or filtering required.  The older radars may still have a problem as you mention.

Last year at the Bodega salmon surge a PB owner told me that with waves and his head mostly on his FF and rods, kayaks were frequently not seen when they needed to be.  Stick boat drivers also have their attention elsewhere most of the time.
I bought a 9'6" steelhead rod at a garage sale for $5 and got the  brightest orange dayglow fabric I could find
My wife sewed a pocket on one edge.  The flag is about 10" x 12".  I am told it is visible for a very long way.  It makes me feel safer.

good question.  I am surprised that there is not already a flag avaliable to buy considering there are clothes with the logo advertised on here.  It would be sweet to support this site, and increase safety OTW.

No. Basically he bought the rights to control it, or something like that.

Bill started NCKA.  Bill moved to Texas.  I now own NCKA, therefore I own the rights to the logo.

I think anyone who copied the logo without permission would have a whole lot of people up in their @$$ and a ton of bad mojo to follow.
Now it's just a guess.  :smt068 :smt068 :smt067 :smt067 :smt070 :smt070 :smt071 :smt071
