I am sure the place is going to be inundated with many record holders wannabees now that it was known that the bass has been released.  The LMB may not be so lucky next time. The Lake is ideal for kayaks and inflatables. No motor allowed.

Perry's record of 22 lb 4 oz hasn't been broken for 71 years now.  IGFA still has to act on the application.  If it is denied, chances are, angler would catch and kill the LMB next time.

Spring Lake has produced a number of giants over the years.  This fish is just one of them.  There was another one caught by a female angler that was just stupid big and was also released.  I've been reading about Spring Lake on and off in the news for years and long before I ever moved here last summer.  If I'm not mistaken it's also talked about in the book Sowbelly (awesome read for bass fishermen).  Unfortunately those days are long past for Spring Lake.  These days the lake is no longer stocked with planter rainbow trout which is what was boosting the size of those monsters back in the day.  Now that it's returned to a natural forage lake I don't believe you'll see any "freaks of nature" from there again.  Of course this does show that the lake has the habitat that it takes to grow giants and it still produces double digit fish fairly frequently.  It's a great little place tucked into the middle of suburbia!  I don't fish there near as much as I should!

There was 24# in so cal that some idiot snagged to claim. Fish was too smart to bite lures. There are record spots and largemouth all over california. Just gotta get one to bite and stay hooked.

The guy threw everything at it and couldn't get her move. So he snagged her.
