I stopped by at twice as nice in HMB on my way back from the dump (ox mountain) and saw this foodsaver units on sale for $40 (blue tags are 50% off) I don't know if this really is a good price, I haven't been to costco recently (most of their stuffs are costco products). I've been wanting one for a long time and this looks like a good starter kit. Just passing along for anyone looking for one.

i love my foodsaver 2444. i usually use the generic bags because they're thicker than the food saver ones and cost way less.

The one I bought from Costco broke already maybe I should get another one.

Thanks

That is a great deal!  I have the 4800 series from Costco, but its a bit bulky.  Was looking for a more traveler sized one.

Just might have to pick one up next time I'm in the HMB area.  Thanks Herb.

That's a great price for a small job unit.  If you have large amounts of fish to process, I'd recommend the foodsaver professional.

http://www.foodsaver.com/vacuum-sealers/FSFSSL0320-000.html#start=14&sz=12  Retail Price $189
You can get it from Amazon for $95
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004M1801Y/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's just like the gamesaver model without the built in carrying handle.  You can do 25 repetitive seals before you need to let it cool down.  The ones I've used in the past would get too hot after a couple of repetitive seals and the ridges in the bag would melt and prevent the vacuum to draw the air out of the bag.  It's also incredibly simple to use.  Open the lid, place your filled bag with the opening in the large gasketed vacuum chamber, close the lid and pull the lever to the right to lock the lid down.  Then push the vac/seal button and the machine does the rest.  There's only two buttons, one to seal bags and one the vacuum and seal when done.  There's a travel bag it fits in too.  You can get that from amazon for $20.  I took it to GS8 and used it process some rockfish.  It worked great.

Update:

I tried mine for the first time and loved it  :smt007 :smt007. Honestly, the only reason I bought it was to pack/seal baits (anchovies/sardines) for future use. My bait gets ruined in the freezer.

Tony, why not just use ziploc bags?? Way cheaper. I searched youtube and theres a way around it.

The bags I get are thicker than the ziplock bags. I usually like to vacuum save my rockfish whole and the spikes dont poke through the amazon bags like they do with the thinner food saver ones. I even tried the game food saver bags and they don't work well with a whole fish. I gotta try the ziploc trick you're talking about on bait and meats. Thanks for the for tip Herb.

Your a dick =) ! I want a limit or even just one dammit, hours and hours and miles of trolling with different shit this year for ZILCH,  I'm going basic with straight to mooching all this next weekend!   ( not thread jacking!!!!  I'm paranoid of the mods!!!!!)

Can't go wrong with any food saver product.  I hear about the thicker bags but haven't used yet.  But think food saver alone pays for its self.   Fish says good for months!!!

 :smt006

Costco and food savers for us go "Hand in Hand"  Wife gets our meat and has me, in her words "Shrinky dink"  :smt044 the meat, berries, cheese, rice, sometimes her coffee.  We (I) use ours all the time!
I'm thinking about taking a some pants and a shirt and Shrinky dinking them and tossing them in truck to have a change of cloths on hand.
