I checked those out at the paddlefest, and they have a pad in the back.  It is thin, but it is still a pad, and I assume will annoy me as much as the pad in my current pfd.

I need a full mesh back.

I'm gonna search out a mildwater or the other one put up by Mooch.

I just feel bad not wearing a pfd.

Hey Mol, not sure which PFD you are referring to but the Solstice has the pad high enough not to mess with high back seats.  In fact it was designed with that in mind.  I've tried it on the Ocean Kayak Comfort Deluxe and the STS Tall Back Outfitter and have problems with neither of them.  Then again, I have a tall torso so you mileage may vary.  Try before you buy!!!

I've got the Kokatat Bahia Tour and the pad in the back is pretty high up. The vest was designed for high back seats and is very comfy for me. Has decent pocket arrangement as well. My 2cts. Tom

molbasser,
I'm no expert but I like my MUSTANG inflatable PFD. It stays out of the way until you pull the cord. No pockets for storing things in though. Very comfortable as it wraps around back of neck leaving your back open to the seat.

I have only been paddling a short while but I also have the high backrest seat and I comfortably use a Extrasport Solstice with a mesh back. So far its a very comfortable ride.

Thanks Mike, I will check it out.

I want to avoid the CO2 type PFD.  My main worry is a medical emergency and I want to be sure I have flotation if I am incapacitated.

I ended up getting a MTI Dorado.  I'm happy with it.

Is there a nearby shop that carries the MTI line or did you have to order online?  They only offer one or two sizes in each vest in their Angler series, and I'd like to try before I buy.

Just got the Extrasport Solstice.  Will give a report.  Once the ocean start laying down.  Never wear it on freshwater.  My old PFD is about 4 or 5 years old and the Red has to turn to black & pink.  Still like it.  Will have to find out the name.

I will have the Solstice for my son.  Hope he fits into.  He keeps on growning by the second.

I also have the Solstice and I love it. I have a highback seat and the mesh back of the Solstice does not interfer at all.
