I have a thought.  Don't take this the wrong way ,  but always check the forecast before you make plans. Small craft advisory until 3:00 am sat. I would not got to Hmb let alone crab.  Be safe.

The HMB Buoy 46012 is showing wave height of 8.9 feet, 13.6 kts wind on the latest data.  It looks like a great day from where I'm sitting just up the road in Pacifica, sunny and calm; but perhaps not a day to be OTW in HMB.

I use the nation data buoy center forecast.  Point Reyes to pigeon point and out 10 nautical miles. A lot of guys here like the noaa forecast instead. I do not. If you look at the noaa forecasts it shows wind waves around 1 ft ( sometimes 2 ft ) for every single day.  This is just not true or possible. I'm skipping this sun but usually hit Hmb every sun. Hit me up next week. Cheers here are the 2 ;
NOAA :
Sunday WNW wind around 16 kt. Partly sunny. Mixed swell...WNW 7 ft at 9 seconds and SSW 1 ft at 13 seconds. Wind waves around 2 ft.

Or
Sun: NW winds 10 to 20 kt. Wind waves 3 to 6 ft. NW swell 8 to 10 ft at 9 seconds.

I don't see the NOAA forecasts showing wind waves of 1-2 ft every single day this week (at least for the Point Reyes to Pigeon Point out to 10 nm).

Which page are you looking at?

BTW, the NDBC and NOAA datasets are the same, assuming you're looking at the exact same region for both.  I'm guessing you are not looking at the Point Reyes to Pigeon Point out to 10 nm for NOAA as it doesn't usually go to the granularity of single digit (16 in the example above).

6' every 9 sec, with winds to 7mph; it seemed doable in the morning.

It did look to pick up after 12noon....

Not sure what Granularity means.  But hey , what do I know? have fun in the 1 to 2 foot wind waves . Sounds like ideal conditions !

Sorry, let me try to be more clear.   If you look at the regional zone NOAA forecast for "Coastal Waters from Point Reyes to Pigeon Point out to 10 nm", http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=PZZ545 , you'll currently see something like this:

Quote
Tonight NW winds 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 4 to 6 ft. NW swell 5 to 7 ft at 9 seconds. Patchy fog after midnight.
Sun NW winds 20 to 30 kt. Wind waves 4 to 7 ft. NW swell 5 to 7 ft at 9 seconds. Patchy fog in the morning.
Sun Night NW winds 20 to 30 kt. Wind waves 4 to 7 ft. NW swell 6 to 8 ft at 9 seconds.
Mon NW winds 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 4 to 7 ft. NW swell 5 to 7 ft at 9 seconds.
Mon Night NW winds 20 to 30 kt. Wind waves 4 to 7 ft. NW swell 6 to 8 ft at 9 seconds.
Tue W winds 10 to 20 kt. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft. NW swell 6 to 8 ft.
Wed W winds 10 to 20 kt. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft. NW swell 4 to 6 ft.
Thu W winds 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 3 to 6 ft. NW swell 4 to 6 ft.

Note that all the wind forecasts are in 5 kt. increments.  What struck me odd was when you quoted NOAA forecasting 16 kt (not an increment of 5 kt.) for it's regional zone forecast.  I've never seen NOAA do it that way for the regional zone forecast.  They do do it that way for the single location point forecasts.  Also note that the above forecast is showing 4-7 foot wind waves, not the 1-2 you are referring to above.

However the single location point forecasts for just outside of HMB do show 1-2 kt. wind waves.  And they also show single digit accuracy on the wind forecasts.
