Didn't see it.
I was talking to a guy today about how we as humans put so much into an event. I mean, it's just a horse running.
I did watch the owners reaction on YouTube because of what you guys said.
I see his point.
I always thought it was the same horses competing in all 3 races.
One thing we'll never know is if he would have brought it up or not if his horse won?
Maybe if he brought it up before any of the three races even started his point would have been better taken.
Not making excuses for him. I could care less.

All 11 horses that have won the triple crown have had to race against fresh horses at belmont. Its been that way for over a hundred years. The TC winner should be able to beat all comers, a true once in a lifetime horse. This guy thinks after winning the first 2 he is entitled to the TC. What a baby. His horse couldnt run an extra quarter mile (belmont is a longer race, another reason sprinters that win the first 2 cant win the third) and this clown throws a fit. Secretariat not only won the TC, but blew away the competition, including horses that had not raced in the previous 2 races. That what makes the TC such a feat. Its extremely hard. And, btw, tonality did race the peter pan, a warm up race for the belmont, instead of the preakness. So its not like tonality hasnt been racing.

I also see both sides of the argument. I did watch Seattle Slew win the triple crown. And one of the latest horses whom won. was sterile so the horse was almost worthless as a breeder. I'm not sure if they were able to do something for that problem. A friend of mine had several descendants from Man Of war. I don't think they ran much other in some Local California races.

I think of it like this: should only tennis players tgat play in the australian be able to play in the french, wimbledon, and us open?  Should only the same group of golfers be able to compete in the majors? Of course not. Its no different for the triple crown.

I think there is a difference depending on if you see them as three individual races or one set of three races. In tennis, it's not expected to win a grand slam in one year. That would be nearly impossible.

But tennis players have longer careers then horses.

Triple crown winner isnt expected either, thats what makes it so hard. Only 11 in 100+ years and everyone had to deal with the same issue of "fresh" horses as cc. (Both commisioner and tonality ran at belmont in the peter pan instead of the preakness). Each race is and independant event, not a series, and some horses are bread for the specific distances of each race.
