It sounds like he wasn't wearing a PFD (although I didn't watch the entire clip).  I think we have all heard this story too many times already:  Good swimmer goes kayaking without a PFD. Something unexpected happens. The good swimmer drowns.

Sad that somebody lost their life. Did you hear the part about euthanizing the swan?! I guess they see the swan as a danger to society  :smt044 maybe they should get the mother swan and babies too... Co- conspirator and future nuisances

…….wish my screen name didn't say Midwest  :smt003. Wow very sad to hear about someone losing a life…….WTF, was this his job controlling the birds in the middle of the pond ? I know swans are put in ponds to keep the geese out. Oh last comment on comparing the harmless pit bulls to the killer swan ahahahahahahahaha "put it down" :smt013. Sry to stray from the sad fact someone lost there life. wear a life jacket in the water. Safety first.

Sorry this dude lost his life.

BUT... duh. You couldn't pay me to get near a roosted swan nest! When I was at UN Reno for school there were domestic swans in the pond that you could see from the dining hall. I'd watch 'em f* up other birds constantly. When the eggs where laid the female would sit on 'em, but the male spent the whole day circling the nest poised in full-bad-ass-mode. He would clunk the piss out of any other bird in the pond that got anywhere near him. He was huge! So obvious, to me at least, that it would be wise to stay away, away, away PFD or not!

I guess he doesn't carry a knife or isn't good with his hands.  Choke the fucker to death.  There is no way in hell a swan in a pond is going to kill me.  Sucks for him, but gee whiz its a damn bird with a long neck.  Grab it and bite its head off like Ozzy would do.

Yeah, that swan's last mission in life would be a makeshift flotation devise. Dead swans float.

I'm guessing that he wasn't wearing a PFD, got caught by surprised when he fell in, gulped in a lot of water (either from panic and/or cold water immersion), surfaced and was immediately beat up by the swan.  In his panic, he couldn't clear his airway and/or defend himself and/or think clearly... so he kept gulping water and drowned.

He was a professional (presumably knows the temperment of swans), probably was close to shore (good swimmer), and probably had done this hundreds of times without any issues (complacent).  It's just another example for always wearing a PFD on the water.  It might have given the extra time and floatation he needed to breath and fight.

Or if he was wearing a PFD, then... well... I dunno.  It's f'd up for his family.  Sorry for their loss.
