I got my revo back in Dec 09.  In the last year or so I noticed a leak, at first it was a small amount, but at GS8 I finally had to pump out water while on the water. I use small plano boxes in the center hatch for my tackle and everything was wet.

When I got home from GS8 I decided to find the leak, filling the hull with water I discovered that it was coming from the "seat peg hole," (it was the only place that was wet.) Sooo, I'm looking for the best course of action to fix this problem. With the Islander trip coming up at the end of this week it might throw a twist in resolving the issue.

Currently, I'm thinking of just using silicon caulking and coating the area real good, but I thought I would bounce it off of you guys and see if somebody had a better idea. I did contact Mel Cottons and talked to Josh. He said I need to go through a dealer to get it fixed (if it's under warranty.) Thats seems like the best idea, but might not be practical due to time constraints. So has anybody run into this problem before? If so how did you resolve it? :smt012

Sorry, can't help you out buddy.  Fingers are crossed it works out before you leave.

Isn't Mel Cottons a dealer though?

Yes Mel Cottons is a dealer (which is why I called them.) What I meant by that was that I could not just drive up to the manufacturer and say "here fix it." That process would have to happen after the Islander trip. 5 more days!

I read about a fix for leaky seat holes recently that involved some pvc pipe and Goop.  It should come up on a Google search as the common areas for leaks on Hobbies are/were the drive well and the seat holes.  I think they fixed/solved the issues in the more recent model upgrades. Hope it works out

There is a kit available from Hobie to fix this issue as long as the crack is limited to the seat peg hole. I believe the kit consists of pvc caps & some adhesive to glue the caps onto the inside of the hull where the seat pegs insert. If you're in a hurry to fix this before your trip you could pick up some pvc caps & marine goop them into place if you can't secure the kit in time. If you're still using the old style expanding black plastic seat pegs I recommend you upgrade to the new style quarter turn seat pegs in the future after installing the repair caps. If you can't get anything done before your trip just leave the scupper plugs screwed in under the seat. Water can only get into these seat peg holes if you've removed the scupper plugs or you get water into the cockpit over the side in rough conditions.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I will take you up it. I'll see if one of the dealers carries the kit (I'm pretty sure it is limited to the seat peg hole.) I did research the Hobie website and didn't see anything about this type of stuff.

I took out the scupper plugs cuz they seemed to help hold the water in, but I'll put them back and see if it helps.

See ya OTW :smt045

Joe, if you bought your kayak at Mel's, then that is complete BULLSHIT.  They did the SAME thing to me on my 2007 Outback.  Mel Cottons IS a dealer and they should be there to help you with your problems. They totally screwed me and NEVER went back.

I had done that repair on my Revo. The kit that I got from the dealer consists of two pvc caps, some two part 5-minute epoxy, and some sand paper. You don't need the kit. Just pick up those things from HD for a few bucks.
The instructions in the kit will tell you to sand the underside of the seat plug, fill the pvc caps with epoxy about 1/2 full, and glue the caps to the seat plugs from the bottom side. I think the pvc cap size is 1.5".

Good luck,
ernest

Btw, there may be other leaks on the Revo. I found multiple leaks around the front hatch where the screws are. My Revo was 2011. Might as well find and fix them while you're at it.

AGREE COMPLETELY!!!  They're kayak department run by Josh is HORRID!!!  I live exactly 2 miles from the store and did not purchase either of my Hobie's from them nor will my next come from them.

I do support their fishing department though.

Problem solved gentlemen. I went out and bought two 3/4" pvc caps and gooped them in. It looks like a perfect fix.

CappyMoMo, Thank You I am good.

AlsHobie, I actually bought it at CCK, cuz they let me demo it and were a great help in answering questions. I was going through Mel Cottons because they are the closest to me.

Eelcram, Salty, Lucky13, Thanks guys, I think it's a good fix. And I will look into the upgraded pegs.

dilbeck, Mike the more I think about it, the more I agree with you. He could have just told me about the pvc caps.

Check fix boat off list, continue packing :smt003
