Heading up to Pinecrest for some family camping and fishing. I've never stayed there or fished the lake before. Does anyone have any fishing intel from there? We will be bringing the yaks and looking to get into some rainbows. I'll be bringing my standard trout tackle and baits but wondered if anyone had a special rig they use up there. Also, I've heard there are kokanee there too, true? Thanks for the help, cheers!

I hear the fishing has been on fire. Usual trout stuff works. I've caught kokes there before but tiny ones... Less than 8" long. Not sure if they survived the draw down last winter.

I have taken my yak there every year for the past 3 or 4 years. I was using it to shuttle the fam to a ledge that is inaccessible otherwise. If you want easy fishing, the spot to go where no one else can get is the ledge just to the right of the water tower if you are looking at the dam. (Just watch for snakes) THere is a huge shelf, and the rainbows just hang out. If you want the bigger ones, you will need to troll the really deep sections near the "river" mouth. THey are all planted fish, so they pretty much bite and swallow everything. Impossible to catch and release if you are using power bait.   PLEASE let us know how it goes. I am curious as to the water level after such a horrendous winter. The campgrounds have been deteriorating over the years with young loud partiers, so bring some earplugs if you are joining that hot mess.

Lake is full and full of truck trout. Anything you would use for planters will work fine. In years past a lot of brudes were dumped not sure about this year. Don't waste your time looking for kokes!! It's a pure tourist lake
That lake is my drinking water so please refrain from pissing in it to much.
We have water restrictions because that lake has to be full up to Labor Day for rec/tourism.

Cool. Might have to try to sneak up there a couple of days this summer. We usually stay at the campground that is first come first serve. I use my kayak cart to get to and from the lake!

Ohh and all the pics of the lake being drained. They have done that every year so that's not anything new.

We went up there one year in March a couple years back during an easy winter, and thought we had landed on the moon. It was awesome to see the bottom in places that is totally under water during the summer. It was a trip!

This was a total trash build, and it has worked so well, I haven't touched it in years. I slid a piece of 1 1/2' abs over the seatpost, and cut it an an angle to hold the piece of landscaping trim at a high angle (I drilled a hole in that at an angle as well). I then used a "ling" clip through the end to hold the kayak. I will sell you the kit for $1,000,000.00...or you can build it for about 39 cents!

Sometimes the easiest solutions work the best. Every year, someone at Pinecrest wants to buy it!

Note of caution...when in this configuration, and going down hill...the kayak can come alongside if you do not use your thigh to hold it back. just saying.

Pinecrest is a great lake to fish. I used to troll around and find where the fish are "hiding." I've usually found them at the waterfall that enters the lake on the east side as well as the cove by the cabins on the other side. Another good place too is to drift around the buoy line by the swim area.

I used to drift night crawlers under a water filled bobber and let it since slowly. I've also use wooly buggers on a fly rod and leeches in size 8 to 10.

Years ago my children and I hit that lake for a few hours and got totally bored catching fish. We happened to find a huge school of them in the back corner and we played a game of what they would not hit. We went through every lure in my box and C&R'd over 100 trout between the  3 of us. We had a blast and even started playing, "you have to catch THAT One."
