Here is one suggestion, but not really "camping".  http://www.mosslandingrvpark.com/rates.html

$58 (less 10% is AAA)

I plan on launching before sunlight - I'll be sticking glow sticks all around my yak to stay visible to the boaters. I actually duct taped the biggest glow stick I could find on the very tip of my sabiki rod (and had it stick straight up on my crate rod holder)  on the last trip to Moss with Stuart. Seem to have worked  :smt003

I also wore an LED head lamp.

As "boaters", are we not held to the same regulations requiring running lights in the dark?

good question - I'm not sure. But Stu and I launched in front of one of the Harbor Masters and he never said a thing  :smt017

Stu had a big lamp behind his yak - and a head lamp as well.

You need running lights in the dark.  Glowsticks might count, but I think the running lights have to be a certain color.

Isn't it red and green - to be able tell if the heading of the boat is to the left or right?

I THINK the green/orange glow sticks would technically count.  Thought I saw a post last year from Socal Lobster guys going out at night w/hoopnets.

However, I worry less about the legality and more about getting hit, much more!!

fyi, here is a link to the boating laws:

and specifically to Legal Requirements:

According to the California Department of Boating and Waterways (we just have a department for everything don't we?) vessels under oars (and I imagine that includes paddles) must..

"A vessel under oars may: a) display those lights prescribed for sailing vessels, or b) have ready at hand an electric torch or lighted lantern showing a white light which must be exhibited in sufficient time to prevent collision."

Here's a link to the required equipment..
http://dbw.ca.gov/Pubs/Abc/reqequip.pdf

And here's an image to what lights should look like for various craft

So, you can either have a white 360º light in the back and a red light on the starboard side towards the front and a green light on the port side towards the front....

Or.... you can carry a torch (i.e. flash light or head lamp)

I think a white 360 and a flashlight at hand is enough and relativly safe.  red and green would be so close to the water level that boaters would see both at once anyway.

Yak need a white light only with a 360 deg.  Glow stick on front and back also help.
