Highway 37 to close five nights starting Sunday
Times Herald staff report

Highway 37 — a major artery between Vallejo and Marin and Sonoma counties — closes to all night traffic for five nights starting Sunday.

Closures will take place between Highway 29 in Vallejo and Highway 121 in Sonoma County each night Sunday through Friday, according to Caltrans.

On Sunday night, the highway will be closed completely 9 p.m., and then reopen by 5 a.m. in time for the morning commute.

Vallejo ramps at Walnut and Wilson avenues to westbound Highway 37 will close earlier — at 8 p.m. the days of the closure.

Meanwhile, both the southbound and northbound Highway 29 connectors to Highway 37 will close at 8 p.m., as well Closures are needed so that Caltrans can complete “major maintenance” work involving installment of new pavement and other work, Caltrans officials said.

Changeable message signs were installed weeks ago alerting Highway 37 motorists of the upcoming closures.

Detours will be in place for both westbound and eastbound Highway 37 will be in place.

Westbound Highway 37 drivers will be directed northbound on Highway 29, and then south on Highway 121. They will re-enter the highway at the Highway 121/Highway 37 intersection.

Eastbound Highway 37 drivers will be directed northbound on Highway 121, southbound on Highway 29. They will reenter the highway at the Highway 29/Highway 37 interchange.

Motorists should allow for extra travel time.

Looks like I won't be taking the scenic route.  I guess 580 through Richmond is relatively safe at 5 A.M.

Normally I'd be driving that route at that time; not with the wife in tow.
Thanks for the heads up.
