Santa Cruz Butt Chasing 5.2.2014 (Photos/ Video Report)

Went out fishing on Friday. The water was beautiful in Santa Cruz as always. I've been having some luck with the Butts in SC so I decided to give it another run. Drifted by "the spot"  with my favorite bait.  I spent most the morning changing out bait due to the bait stealing brown RF.

At 10:00 a.m. my rod gets slammed and it starts to peel line. I thought it was a ling but then I felt the hard head shakes and the massive weight on my line.  As I get color i see that it came up vertically!! with the hook barley on its lip.  YIKES!!!

I generally have a bad feeling when i see it come up like that. Fortunately I kept my cool and  my head in the game.
I made a few attempt to net it and finally land it.  Beautiful 21 lb fish. Took a photo on bayside. Enjoy the porn. --Keith

Nice fish and good job netting it.  I used a net on my biggest halibut.  It took a couple tries and barely fit in the net, but netting can be as effective as the gaff if you are comfortable with your netting skills.

Great vid.  That netting footage looks crazy!

Great report, video and Catch !! Working on my video skills at the moment.    Hope to have my catches on video soon. Isn't it funny how you say you saw that it was barely hooked and then it takes a strong dive and you start ta think its gonna come unbuttoned? Thats the most exciting part!!!
