I've been wanting to try a night time rock cod trip but was unsure if it would be any good. I am thinking about trying it tonight and was wondering if anyone here has tried it. Is it worth going at night? If anyone has any info on this I would appreciate it ....thanks

I've night-fished for rockfish before, but mostly from the shore.  It can be really good, especially if you have a light source nearby like a lantern or a big floodlight.  The one time I night-fished for them from a boat was near the Humboldt Bay Coast Guard Station that Matanaska mentioned.  They have these big floodlights over the little "jetties" that protect their boat moorings.  We whacked the rockfish with various jigs and swimbaits here.

I've fished at twilight from the Humboldt Bay jetties a few times, and it seemed you'd get more copper and brown rockfish coming out to chomp your jig than you'd normally see in the day.  Also pulled some nice blacks fishing at night.  Never hooked any lings though.

I fish at night all the time.  Usually Monterey cg pier or lovers point area.  If u think cod are active during the day, u gotta see what happens at night.  U will never wanna fish during the day again.  They are really active. Its the knly time i have ever csught calicos up here.  We usually pull limits of cod and even a couple of lings.
Usually use small swim baits or squid.

I did it a bunch growing up and it was the only time that we were able to catch big rock fish from the rocks.  They seem to be wwaaayyy more active at night.
