But if you release a bigger fish for the tourney, and check in a slightly smaller for the side bet, can you still win that way?

Good question. Although that would be a hell-of-a-day!

Just catch two cabs the exact same size. Release one then kill the other for the side pot.  Actually I felt a little bad keeping that one last year but I knew it would put me in contention for the side pot. I was fishing with no FF on tourney day which made it even more interesting since I had never fished shelter before!

Register for GS8.1 and I believe you'd be eligible for the side bet.  Last year was only my first but yes, it was fun.

Absolutely. The biggest dead fish brought in wins no matter what else you have released.

I will be in this year. Last year BMB and I had the same exact size cab @ 24.5". Won't let that happen again
