Read through this board and you will see all sorts.
Get yourself to a place you can demo different kinds.
What works for me might not for you, it's personal preference.

Welcome kid! Wear a PFD always.

Might I suggest that you attend The Kayak Fishing Festival This Saturday April 26, 2014 at Lupine Shores Lake Berryessa. Look for info on the home page of this forum. There will be demos and with NCKA there is sure to be some great fellowship and food. I like my kayak quite well but I would do you the most good to invite you to demo. Where do you want to kayak? Everywhere? Safety gear and the ability to self rescue are good places to start. -Amos

Welcome to the group.  Demo before you buy.  If you end up fishing different types of water(rivers, lakes, ocean)- eventually you may NEED more than one.  I know folks with far more than that.  I would equate it to this- You can drive a lifted 4x4 on the street, but it really was designed to run in thick mud on a mountain road.   The same is true for kayaks.  There are many seasoned vets and brand reps here to help you out.  Vwool nailed it - you need to demo and find what you like best.  Think about what waters you want to fish now, and get the best suited yak for that type of fishing.  Next season you may be doing something totally different.

Welcome,
Aaron

PS
The event this weekend would be a great opportunity to learn and demo.

Take some, but save some for later.
