I sold a guy a Propel last week and had fished from a Hobie Outback for a year, so he sent in this comparison review between the two kayaks.

Check it out on our blog:

Allen is registered on this site as well, but rarely posts or visits.  His handle is Outback Allen (obviously will need to get that changed).  I had a really nice time meeting him at your shop on Saturday.

Thanks for taking me as your student Ben  :smt044. Anxious to see your review of the Slayer.

This is a great review!

Things I would improve:
Recessed transducer scupper mount
Front hatch to come standard
Accessory on the prop to cut weeds
Larger rudder for quicker turning

I'm sure Native(or someone) can also, do something to gear-up the speeds.

I'll just say its obvious that Allen has been doing some reading on how to improve the yak, and Native has been very receptive to the ideas.

Dan... can Headwaters bring one to demo at the Lake Berryessa for the Kayak Fishing Festival on Saturday, 4/26?

It would be cool to see Native's improvements, and have others make their own comparisons.

I just love the idea of seeing more pedal driven fishing kayaks OTW no matter who makes them. :smt003

I'm a big fan of Native Watercraft and it's innovations.  Here's a review that I did on a Native Watercraft Magic 12 that I did back in May 2008:  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=12942.0

As far as I'm concerned, Native was the first company to successfully introduced the popular new "lawn chair" style seats that you see on Jacksons and the Hobie Pro Anglers today.

Yes we will have our two shop demos there, and Native will be there with their two demos as well.

To gear up speeds or make a Native or Hobie faster would require hull re-designs and probably a change from plastic to glass as the building material. Just too much weight and water resistance to ever be made much faster.
