We were camping with friends near the Big Sur River so I asked them if they were interested in Kayak fishing at Limekiln.  Since two of the other dads had kayaking experience and were interested, I offered my OK Malibu Two and use of my rods as I am carrying three these days.  We arrived at 7: 35, before the gate opended so we rigged up just inside the gate and double deck carted the yaks to the beach.

The launch was easier than normal with 2-3 foot waves breaking right on the beach.  I ended up taking a good one in my lap in my rush to go out but no biggy.  My buddies in the tandem launched clean.  We headed north and tried the kelp near the two rocks at the edge of the cove.  We got a few quick C&R blues and moved further north.  I had each of my friends using a rod with either swim bait , iron or frozen anchovies.  Every one caught a few.  At  one point we found a pinnacle of about 20 feet surrounded by about 50 foot water.  We landed and released six Cabazon in a row, biggest 20 inches plus a few grass and/or kelp RF.  All were C&R since we did not find any lings but a great time was had by all in the total of about 2 hours on the water.

We landed easily but my friends got dumped by a late second wave and ended up sitting on the beach in a foot of water.  On the way out, the female ranger was friendly and we spoke about fishing in a positive manner with another ranger.  We  gave the leftover bait to a guy who was asking about conditions and was heading shore fishing.  Although I did catch the most fish, I definitely spent at least half of my time on the water helping my mostly non fishing friends un-snag, tie new lours, re-bait, etc., but they enjoyed themselves and so did I.

Good report, great fishing comradery and assistance, and thanks for chatting with the rangers. Anything we can do to create a good image for us with park staff and game wardens will help this sport in the long run.
