I want to try trolling for stripers. Just wanted to know what a good size test I should use and if it was better to use braided or fluorocarbon.

Fluoro leader, braided mainline.  Size of fluoro leader depends on the size of the fish in the area and if you have braid or mono mainline.

20# fluoro leader would be my call.  Lighter if the lure requires more action.

Depends more on the reel & rod setup.  I usually fish 20-25# braid on my bass rods & use the same setups for strip. bass

I personally like to go as lite as possible & go heavier if I'm by sting fish off.  That's what drag is for & kayaks are good for chasing fish town if needed.  Lite will usually give a lure best action.

I use either 30lbs braid or 15lbs mono Pline. Stripers don't care about a leader since they are simply hitting on a reaction.

Ok sounds good. And I was also wondering. When ur trolling in a yak are u paddling fast enough for the lure to do its job? I feel like I'd have to paddle hard and fast.

I currently don't have a yak but I'm like a few paychecks close to getting one so I'm preparing myself.

You are just paddling enough to see the action on your rod tip. Something have learned over the years is that most bite come when I've slowed to down for one reason or another. You think u gotta smash around but just cruising is where u wanna be
I like to have fun.......
