I just lost the ceramic ring out of the guide at the tip of one of my rods.  The rod is a Shimano Clarus and in theory it has a life time warranty, but it seems that I need my original receipt which I can't find.

Anyway, I'm wondering how difficult it would be to replace the ceramic ring and/or the entire tip guide.

Thanks,
Brian

Very easy repair.   It'd have to be a replacement of the guide... not just the ceramic ring.

Is it the tip top or the first guide from the tip?

Either way, I'd be happy to repair it for you for a very minimal fee (less than it would cost to ship it to Shimano).

PM me and we can chat.

If you don't want to do it yourself, shimano doesn't care if you have the reciept.

Shimano, without doubt, has the best customer service in the business.

Send them the rod, and they will send it back, most likely a brand new rod.

They have an amazing turnaround.

That said, it will be way cheaper just to bring it to a local shop or do it yourself to save the shipping.

Rest assured however, if you sent it to shimano they would take care of you.

Chri just stole my thunder,

I was going to say the exact same thing.
Best customer service I hfve ever experienced.

I bought one Compre rod...ended up with a total of two good rods, an accuarte/squidder reel, and $90 cash.

(long story)

short version:  they say send it back and they send you a new one.

I cannot praise shimano customer service enough.

They are epic.  Just bend over backwards for you awesome.

I try to buy shimano products because of it.  I love shimano rods, and the curado (well the older one) was the standard for bang for your buck freshwater baitcasters.

I have sent many reels to them for service only to have brand new ones mailed back to me.

Seriously, shimano will do you right.

Thanks for everyone's input...

I had heard that shimano had great repair service and that's probably why most of my rods and reels are shimano.  I guess I was reading into the warranty a bit too much, good to hear that they are liberal in its interpretation.

Given that nature of the repair, it sounds like having Erik (who doesn't live that far from me) fix it will be cheaper than sending it to Shimano.

Maybe I'm misinformned but didn't they(shimano) just have a class action  filed against them for price fixing. I love great customer service but isn't that there job. If you pay top dollar shouldn't you expect to be treated with respect. I have not bought Shimano just for that reason. They have great products but so do alot of amarican co.

Brian, watch him do it.  I replaced the tip guide on one of my rods after watching Randy start making rods.  It isn't that hard to do one and have things still look pretty good.  The rotating machine is the only "trick" item.

Don't let Pat fool you...This is a highly challenging task requiring the mastery of a Jedi in the art of rod building and boatloads of expensive equipment.  There is also some voo-doo and black magic involved as well, which I why I only repair rods in secret... in the secret cave underneath my house.  :angry4:

In all honesty it is pretty easy... finding the right replacement parts is probably the hardest thing for someone who is not used to shopping for that kind of thing.  Maybe something I should do a little clinic on at one of the future tournaments.

Maybe.  They do dictate that you cannot (as an official lisenced shimano dealer) discount their products.

However, their products are not priced any higher than the other premium brands and the product is superior and the sevice is second to none.

No other company has the customer service of shimano.  Period.
