What type of mount is best for freediving,...with the camera on your head. My daughter has the elastic head band, but that seems a bit lame. I went online to Go Pro and that is all I saw. Anything else out there that is more secure?  Thanks, Ron

I've wondered the same thing. I've mounted it on my head and it can come off in kelp or if you bump a rock. But if you're diving in kelp, it's probably best not to have it too tightly secured.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

I believe the avid divers, like BigJim, who post videos on an almost weekly basis use the elastic head band.  It's my understanding that they put the dive hood over the band to keep from help prevent loosing it.

I've seen divers using a wide range of GoPro mounts ... the standard head mount, the chest mount with a short extension arm to get more angle flexibility, a diy wrist strap mount, or even a handheld "platform" similar to a camera dive mount. The latter works best if your sole purpose of the dive is to take video while underwater, but if you're abbing/spearfishing, the hand-free mounts are more practical.

There are some great DIY mount plans out there that are customizable, can be made for minimal cost, and fit a huge variety of applications. Well worth googling "diy gopro dive mount" and getting some ideas.

You need to ask to expert, BigJim.  I think he might have lost or ruined one recently, so I'm sure his input would be helpful.

What works for me is using the standard headstrap and wearing it under my hood...

Yes, I have lost one when I was trying to get some footage of surf landing and did not have my hood on and got crushed by a wave.  :smt009

Any other questions just let us know!
