Where: Sunset Bay State Park Coos Bay, OR
When: Saturday August 23rd 2014
Entry Fee: $30

Just thought i would post this here in case any of you Norcal guys would like to plan an incursion into Oregon waters for some fun and prizes!

This is an unofficial announcement of my Tourny so people will have time to make arrangements to attend. This will be the fifth year and i am working on getting a Hobie Kayak for first place prize this year, this isn't set in stone yet but am pretty confident it will happen...

I will have an official announcement with the rules and sponsors in a week or so...

If you were ever gonna plan a road trip to fish the southern Oregon coast this would be the time. Sunset Bay is probably the easiest launch on the whole coast of Oregon and some great fishing grounds!

Hope to see some of our southern brothers up here !

Here is the link to the NWKA thread about it.

Fishing Oregon is on my bucket list ...I hope I can work this into my schedule.

For fairness  I will say going fishing anywhere and everywhere I have not fished yet is on my  list ,

Eric, This is points per inch rules like the AOTY with usual saltwater species included. The main catch here is Rockfish, Greenling, Cabbies, Lings and Striped Seaperch, also Salmon can be possible.

Salmon will also be running in the bay and we will have a back up venue for trolling for Salmon if the ocean doesnt cooperate so bring your Salmon gear.

The ORC is july 12th so about a month and a half after.

here are the campgrounds for making resrvations if you plan to attend:

There is Sunset Bay stae park which can be reserved at reserve america.  just a couple minutes from the the launch

There is also Bastendorff county park which can reserved here. just about 5 minutes from the launch.
http://www.co.coos.or.us/Departments/CoosCountyParks/Bastendorff.aspx

definetly get your reservations in early!

will have more information and all the rules when i officially announce in a week or so.

See ya on the water..

I just checked with the state parks. There is a group camp at the end of Cape Arago HWY, about 3 miles south of Sunset Bay that is available.

it will accomadate 25 people and 6 vehicles, it has no potable water, no showers but can use the showers at Sunset Bay State Park. It has 4 picnic tables, a fire ring and chemical toilets. It is 71 dollars a night. Tight access road would be difficult for RV's and trailers, it is better for tent camping.

you can't reserve this on reserve america, need to call 1-800-452-5687, it is the Cape Arago group site

I'm gonna try and make this one.  I have a friend with a farm, outside of Powers.  I think Sunset Bay is only about an hour from there which would allow me to combine a visit with friends and the tourney.  I have been to Sunset Bay many times and always wished I had the yak with me.  It looks like a very friendly scenic launch.

Yep, very friendly launch & I'd say Powers is about 1.5 hours away. Here's the shortcut:

It'd be great to see you there Martin!
