I've got rudder line issues on both my AI and on my Outback  :smt012  On the OB the Right line frayed and then broke.  And on the AI the Down line is starting to fray now, on the outside of the rudder, and will need to be fixed.  I thought it would be easy enough to buy some rudder line and re-run it, but I guess it's not as simple as that.  Anyone have experience replacing the rudder lines on AI's or OB's?

I had a few frayed/broken rudder lines on my Revos. They would wear right where the left side line went into the metal hole in the rudder. On my boats there was a knot connection accessible thru the rear hatch so I only needed a few feet of line & never had to replace the entire line. I started putting a little shrinkwrap over the line where it goes into the rudder, like a 1" piece with half in & half out, & then I never had anymore problems.

This is the site for all the Hobie kayaks and their parts and repair guides, you will find the way the lines should go here.
I  repaired mine with Sonny last year, it was not that difficult but you do need 2 people to do it.

Well I have fixed the AI down rudder control, and it wasn't too hard.  But on the Outback when I checked it didn't seem to have the same thoughtful knot attachments inside the rear hull.  I'll check again after this weekend, but seemed to me that it looked like a lot more of a headache than replacing the down rudder line on my AI.
