All you Subaru guys out there...
The newer Outbacks have the built in Crossbars which are not very long. I could get the J-racks, but then I won't be able to park in the garage under the kayaks.

My preferred option would be to mount some sort of longer bars which would allow 2 kayaks side by side.

Is there any way to do this?

Thule or Yak should make adapters for longer bars

I also Bought a New Outback 2014 .. Just bought me a Thule aero blade load bar 60 inch long . Along with the Thule 450R rapid cross and you all set .. I've tried it with my AI and is awesome ..

I don't know the width of the subaru outback crossbars.  J racks need only about a foot - 1 1/2ft of space for mounting though, so I think it would be possible.

2013 should use Yakima Landing Pad 13

I know that Fish 'n Brew (Martin) has similar setup on his OB - looks awesome
