If this North wind ever quits blowing.  The fish are getting fatter with the upwelling from these winds.

Circle hooks are not required when artificial lures are used without bait.

So barbless CIRCLE hooks when trolling dead bait?

Not talking about trooching here, talking about RSKs and FBRs etc.

Salmon regulations-- :smt013.  I think you can use barbless J hooks when trolling with RSKs and FBRs.   Same as last year.

Jhooks for trolling
circle hooks for mooching
Jhooks for jigging artificial (ex. knife or speed jig with one single barbless jhook or 3oz jighead with a Big Hammer swimbait with a crimped or filed to barbless hook)

So I can keep a pink salmon? Sweet! :-)
Actually I got a pink and a big steelie at Fanny Shoals last season, so not impossible.

I had no idea. I thought it must have been a stray from up north.

Not as tasty as the other salmon but lots of fun to catch. Planting some Pinks locally to start runs would be a great idea IMO.  Their two year cycle would mean less bust and boom and their smaller size would work out better on smaller rivers. I heard ( not sure if it's true) that they planted Mad River strain Chinook on the Carmel River. They were too big and had trouble making it upstream

We had a few pinks in the AR two years ago. Weird.

I saw a sockeye from the American last year. I never heard of Pinks there.

California should start stocking pinks and sockeyes for the recreational folks. Even though I have gotten my share from Alaska , I think y'all would have fun with these critters.  :smt003. Heck as much as the DFG and the CWRB have screwed up I don't think introducing an invasive species like these two species would do much harm.
