Hit Dillon beach for the first time on Saturday with my boy Monte and Kiel. We got there at 8:00AM and fished the incoming tide; myself with a MORF grub, Monte fished an Amber Hologram grub, and Kiel fished pile worms and grasshrimp.

I drew first blood with a 11.5" BSP....my PB BSP! I think Kiel was up next with a 12.5" redtail that hit pileworm on a hi/lo. A little while later Monte gets a rippin' hit that he eventually loses to the surf. He guessed very big redtail or small striper by the way it fought.

After 10:00AM or so there were about 500,000 people on the beach. Surfers launching right next to us, unattended dogs playing in the surf where we were trying to fish, and ever building surf had us callin' it quits shortly after 11:00.

Overall a decent trip. Dillon has some good structure right in front. I'd like to give it a shot on a weekday and stay more mobile next time.

Going out again tomorrow. Love fishing during the week. Sounds like you did well before the crowd.

I think I'ma hit the surf tomorrow, as well. Trying to decide between Salmon Creek and Kehoe.

Nice! I believe that's the first time I've seen a surf perch report from you. Down by Abbott's would be awesome.

That looks cool, Victor and I have been talking about trying this out some time.

Maybe next time I go for clams and should bring a pole too and try it after Lawson's landing.

Could any one describe the set up for perch fishing?  How long a rod do you need, what line weight, how you rig the bottom....weight on end of line, or off dropper..., and hook size.  How far out do you cast..beyond the breaker, or in between the last 2 waves?   I'd really like to try it on the Marin/Sonoma coast.
Thanks

Here a writeup from Hippo...
http://www.histackleboxshop.com/Surf-Perch-Grubbing-s/2791.htm

It's been a long while since I fished the surf. My wife loves those silvery-scaled critters. I used to fish em with my 7wt fly rod. One time I hooked and landed a 25lb striper while perching at Halfmoon Bay.

It's a alot of fun but pay good attention to the surf. Rip currents can be sneaky.
