I don't know you Frank, but anytime anybody hooks up with some serious stainless steel, Aye say "WTG"!

Wow, epic catch from the surf!  Must've been a real kick in the pants to play and land.  Is there a creek mouth somewhere nearby?

Yeah.  San Gregorio Creek.  Good sized but smaller that Pescadaro, Scott's or Waddell.  Apparently still holds steelhead though, that's GREAT.

Jim Hobbs: Frank that thing is a federally threatened ESU of steelhead man. You caught it in the surf?

Frank Sacramento: Jim Hobbs , right next to the river that spills into the ocean at San Gregorio Beach. I was as surprised as all get out. Took special care in reviving. Had a big smile on my face when it swam away.

facebook conversation.

The Steelhead actually jumped out of the water but it was in the glare of the sun. Thinking it was a striper and having been with polepole perch fishing last sat when he lost a striper I loosened the drag and let it run. Three runs total and I was finally bringing it in.
I was totally blown away when it came out of the foam with a big, "What the F#@K" which I believe I said aloud.
I was fishing just to the north of the creek and in the surf when the buzz of my reel went off. All I can say guys is what a treat that this is why we fish. You just never know.
Oh I went further south and fished Piscadero for two more perch.

Why would he do that....I read on the intranets that you can keep bycatch whether you were legal when you caught it or not  :smt002

"Take" a hike!  and, it's the WorlWide InterWEb anyway.

It's a series of tubes.

Thanks for the pics and bycatch report.
