need to smog my 2004 diesel with banks system

Thanks Howard but I need someone with bad eyes who will miss the modifications done prior to smog being required on diesels.

Unethical mods .... for shame

last time i smog'd by truck, i see the guy with a flashlight searching around under the hood and dash for a good 10 minutes.  i go walk out there and ask him what he was looking for.  he told me my truck has been modified and was "chipped".  i ask what makes you say that.  he points to 3 boxes under the dash with a bunch of wires coming out of it... i LOL, and told him you better get your eyes checked because those are the sender boxes for my gauges! 

maybe you don't want someone with bad eyes!

Call a local diesel performance shop and find out who they recommend   

well mine has been chipped and the whole exhaust been replaced.
I think i need to go to a few places and see who will they recommend.

Banks systems are not all off the list, a little digging and you.might be ok.

I always thought that for the $$$ paid for Banks, you are CARB approved and don't have to worry about it come SMOG time.  Maybe, there's more additional non-Banks updates under the hood details done, i.e. no cats.  Yeah, best to ask local performance shops.

I always took my diesels to the dealer to smog it. I had some random shop do it once and it failed because the guy didn't know how to smog a diesel. Cost me $80  for nothing. My thought is the dealer doesn't want ur truck to fail because it looks bad for them. This was on a 100% stock truck but a carb approved banks kit shouldn't be any different. Good luck.

Also, pass or don't pay if they do the repairs.

I have an 04 Dodge, did mine a year ago. But since then my injection pump went out, and An injector. So I bought a pump +60 hp, and 33% injectors. But I also bought a Turbo. It has a mechanical/ Vacuum waste gate instead of the electronic controlled one. I think that is where you get in trouble. I saved my old good turbo to change out when I have to have it smoged. Auto Diesel Power out of Utah. Said "the other mods will fly". But I hear that sometime this yr, they will have a tail pipe sensor. Right now they look for the waste gate mod, and see how much smoke it puts out. When they throttle it up. If the smoke lasts too long it is a fail.

They have those places too....but here in Oakland......we have super shady gypsy smog places that are there one year and in another location the next, usually at run down gas stations.   They'll pass you....just sayin..
