I'm in the market for swim bait setup for throwing 3-5oz baits.

I have my eye on the Dobyns 806 and 807 and Curado 300 but will consider others.

Let me know what you have :)

I currently own the Dobyns 795, 807, and 867 swimbait rods.  I prefer the NON-Mike Long versions.  I avoided the Mike Long versions specifically b/c they have longer handles and are harder to cast and work when sitting in the kayak fishing due to the length of the butt section.  If I was fishing primarily from a power boat the longer handles do give more leverage for chucking the big baits.  They are all fantastic rods!  However, if you plan on throwing stuff on the heavier end I would seriously consider the Dobyns 867 as it will do anything the 806 and 807 will do and more.

For reels, I'm a Shimano guy through and through.  I have two Shimano Curado 300DSV reels on the 795 and 807, but on the 867 I have a Calcutta 300D.  I love them all, but must admit the Curado reels feel better in the hands if you tend to palm your reels on retrieve.

I was looking at the 867 and 908 models as well. Just didn't think i needed that much rod for size baits i plan on throwing, but i have read reviews saying how versatile those rods are. Add those to the list too  :smt001

The long handles bother me too. Even on my Ducketts, the handle always seems to get in the way...

I'm considering getting he handle on my next swim bait rod profesionally shortened.

As far as reels go, I'm definitely  leaning towards a Curado 300 of some kind. I have a Cardiff 400 and that thing is a beast of a reel. Very uncomfortable for a entire day of flinging 4ozs.

Theres a shimano crucial swim bait rod on eBay.this is the older model green one with the cork grip handle.these are way better then the new model and is very hard to find and new at that.pair that with a curado 300 or a calcutta 2 or 300s reel and that would be the perfect set-up
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

If you'd consider a Dobyns 766, I have one in very good condition. I also have a BNIB Abu Revo Toro 60-HS that I can offer.

$150 for the Dobyns and $170 for the reel or $300 for both.  :smt001

The 766 is a tad light for my application and I would have been all over that toro had I not bought the Curado last week :(
