I'm picking up one (1) from "Fishbucket" this Friday 2/21/2014 in San Bruno and can pick up a few for the brotherhood in the Bay Area.

If you're anywhere near Palo Alto, Santa Clara, San Jose, Fremont, Union City, Hayward, San Leandro, Redwood City, HMB, Monterey and have  interests in getting free 12V batteries, I can pick up for you.

I was wondering what these were used for originally. Because I just stumbled across a bunch of old APC battery backup surge protectors at work...and realized that I could pop out the battery to use with my FF. It was like a lightbuld appeared over my head.

Dude, -filler- . It was like a lightbuld appeared over my head.

 That is exactly where I'm getting these from , a UPS. 
But much bigger than an underdesk UPS.  These UPS's can hold a large server room switches and gear for a couple hours.

In the pic below, each of those battery frames  holds an average 32 battery racks, each rack has 8 - 12v. batteries (a rack weighs 40 lbs). .. there's 160 Battery racks.
 That's 1,280 batteries.    Batteries weigh 5 lbs each.
I've pulled +/-  80 so far.    trying to get a load more out before the recycler comes.
I hope I dont and have not heard of anybody getting a bad one yet.
