I've been shopping for a dry suit. I tried a Kokatat lately but I could not take it off because of the strong neck gasket. Somebody told me to get either a Kokatat Hydrus 3L Supernova or a Tropos Supernova. I need some advices here to make my decision, please. I already know those are not real dry suits. I want something that I can put on and take off easier.

Have you try to stretch the rubber in the neck area?

The hydrus 3l has neoprene neck gasket and is very easy to take off compare to a rubber gasket ones found in the higher end dry suits. In my opinion, that's more than sufficient for what we do in the water, unless you do a lot of surf launches or whitewater kayaking on the side.

You probably won't notice the difference between the two unless your neck/head is submerged for extended periods. If you have practiced self rescue and use the buddy system, you shouldn't have to worry. However, if you are really set on the latex gasket, wearing it should just border on uncomfortable.  You can also trim the neck gaskets to fit if it is too tight as well.

The Kokatat Angler Drysuit IMO is the best for kayak fishing.  All my buddies who own one love them.  They are expensive, but after owning one, we have not gone back to Farmer John wetsuits for saltwater. The guy on the left look familiar?

Ive worn both and both have there places. A paddling suit has a Neoprene neck a dry suit has a latex neck gasket. Kokatat makes suits either style in 3L or Gore-tex. For what we do the Supernova Angler paddling suit is perfect. I've done wet exits in a touring kayak and multiple rescue and re-entry sessions and never had any more then a few drops come down the neck. If your wearing a proper PFD then your head shouldn't be underwater for long anyways. keep in mind the suit only keeps you dry, not warm. You still need to ware proper under layers of poly fleece or something similar.

I have the Kokatat "swift entry" and it has the latex neck gasket.  I used a half gallon pickle jar to stretch it, and small tuna cans for the wrist gaskets.  It is fine now.  Be sure to use 303 protectant on all gaskets regardless of what suit you get.

What was your decision.  I'm trying to make the same decision and I'm still on the fence.

Just wondering.  Did you purchase online or were you able to walk in and try one on?

Ha ha. No wonder I could not find it. I thought it was one of the Kokatat model.
I'll go to California Canoe and Kayak see if I can find one first. If I can't then I order it online.
