Launched out of HMB at around 9AM...because Art said so....captains orders :smt002 Bill and I were deckhands on Art's 20 footer and so we headed out to San Gregorio - hit a few sand dab spots for ling bait (a few mackarel were caught too) and then proceeded to C&R blues, blacks, browns, greenling, gophers, underlings and starfish :smt011 It was steady picking all day - the conditions were calm and nearly perfect. We fished between 60 to 100 feet of water. At the end of the day, we all caught several legal lings and only kept one each. Bill caught a healthy brown and I got a nice vermilion.

Art = thanks for the invitation! Thanks for putting us on the fish  :smt023

Pics to follow......

NEXT TRIP: Ano Nuevo: White Shark "viewing" I'll gladly use my kayak as "bait" .... to tow behind the boat with a blow-up doll as a test pilot  :smt045

Besides using new school technology (Fish Finders and GPS)...Art still uses the old school "marking my territory" system  :munky2:

After Art the "El Capitan" marks his spot (and scares the fleet away with his display), Bill goes to work and hooks up a quality brown......

Art (also known as "mono man" - cause he still believes in using mono over braided line) shows his skillzzz with the first legal ling on the deck  :notworthy:

Here's the real report

Bill and I arrived in HMB around 9 to find Hook One Pro Staffer Joel "G Spot" Lotilla gazing into the harbor next to the kayak launch, he looked out of place.........no neoprene chicken legs.  He walked up to the dock and  called my rock solid swell crushing machine a ski boat because it had a radar arch rather than a hard top....STRIKE ONE.  As we exited the harbor Bill hands Joel an assortment of freshly poured swimbaits then proceeds to rig up a bait he bought at the baitshop......Strike One on Bill's count. As soon as we left the jaws we spotted a fellow kayaker and Joel suggests we go over and give him a hug to spread the NCKA gospel...but we have fish to catch so we speed off to the dab spot. We gathered enough bait for the day while another boat piggy backs my spot.......I don't think they were lookin for bait cause they left after a few minutes.  We arrived at the secret spot only to find that joel had leaked info to another boat at the dock and 30 others were parked on my reef  :smt001  We had a slow pick for most of the day but you wouldn't have been able to tell by the way Joel was screaming every time he hooked a fish.  Joel took strike 2 when he slung a netted ling on the deck and it puked up an octupus and slung it all over the boat.....I actually reclassed that to a foul tip because part of that puky octopus back into Joels face when he reached down to measure it.  Strike 3 took place when Joel started talking spectra.........its like having a jehova's witness knock on your door......sensitivity... blah blah blah...........unbreakable blah blah blah.....talk to the half dozen jigs G Spot donated to the reef   :smt002  Toward the end of the day we drifted from the ritz back toward martins and found some pretty good pinnacles holding nothing but ling's.  Joel continued to rub insult to injury by nailing the biggest ling of the day and not on one of Bills specially poured baits  :smt001

Thats the official report :smt003

PS Joel's secret lure was a ..................... :smt002

I think we saw Joel's secret lure in the 2005 Bendo at Mendo photos: looked like an apron of some kind made ot attract amorous Ling Cod or Salmon during spawnign season I suppose.

Thanks for letting me ride on your boat Art, I hope I can do it again soon.

Fishing with the Mooch man is a great joy. So much good info, so much girly screaming. I probably got about 10 fish, a few lings that where close but I only wanted one fish for dinner so I released everything. Here are the pics:

Joel with a nice little Mac

Joel's nice stringer
