fishing trip tackle

I'm heading down to El Salvador for a surf trip this April and I was planning on bringing a rod down there with me. I'm hoping I can get a hold of a yak down there to get other and try my luck in warm water. I'm trying to get some info on fish to target and what type of gear I should bring with me. I also plan to bring my speargun and stuff to try that as well. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.
