Larry Dahlberg's 4 Stages of Fishing

I am big fan of Larry Dahlberg's Hunt for Big Fish TV show.  In one of his shows he mentioned 4 stages of fishing. 

Stage 1:  You just want to catch one.
Stage 2:  You want to catch a limit.
Stage 3:  You want to catch a monster.
Stage 4:  You want to catch them the way that you want to catch them.

Crap! I have a combination of stage 3 and 4!

I can relate...I'm a big fan of LD too. He is truely one of our fishing pioneers. What I love most is his obvious passion for the game, and never ending search for new things and ways to pursue our quarry.

I heard Joan Wulff speak a couple of times many years ago and her stages are similar.

1. You just want to catch fish.
2. You want to catch big fish.
3. You want to catch challenging fish.
4. You just want to fish.

I just want to catch fish on a 2-handed fly rod, everything else is for sh1ts and giggles or to fill the freezer....
