Any thoughts? I would like it to be 7'-8' baitcasting rod but that is the only requirement I have. Cheap is less the $50.

Bill, I was also looking for a the same exact thing and found the  Shakespeare® Ugly Stik Lite® Inshore Casting Rod for only $39 at WalMart.

Here's a link to same rod at BassPro.com:
http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=17945&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults

I bought the 1 piece, 7', 12-25lb rod for mooching and all around inshore fishing.  It's lightweight and nearly indestrutible.  It's also very flexible which makes it ideal for spectra or light mono.

I also have a Shimano Clarus rod like Joel.  It's a 2 pc, 9', 10-30lb med/heavy action rod perfect for mooching, but it's long length makes it a little tough for landing fish in kayak.

I have a few Ugly Sticks, they were not expensive at all.  If you need one, let me know.

The Claurus line is the best value in a rod in my opinion.

I have two claurus rods, one for wormin and jigin (bass) and one for dropshot (bass).

If I was to buy another rod and the power and length were included in the claurus line, I would buy it.

Shimano rocks by the way.  Mail them a reel that feels a little sticky and you are likely to recieve a brand new reel a couple of days later.  Their customer service is beyond reproach.

they have the 8.5' Clarus at Mel Cotton's, too.  If it breaks just bring it back to the store and you'll walk out with a new one.

This weekend is their spring fishing sale/seminar.  Allen B. was there the last couple of years representing OK, but I'm not sure if he'll be there this year.

Claurus rods are only 59.  They are a hundred times better than Ugly Stiks.
