Some people are really happy today (see pictures below), so called Happy Hollow again for this report.  :smt002

Having checked the ocean condition forecast for Sunday, it was supposed to be good/glassy, So I decided to hit the spots again, so did others. Today we had craigcafe, chuckE, eyeatbay, bill, fuzz and freddie that joined the outing. We launched around 6:30. The condition could not be better - flat and glassy. It was easy out and easy in. Both launch and land are a piece of cake.

Fishing - I did not do well today - only got 1 fat cab and 3 decent sizes of coppers. I guess it is fair since I already got a big ass ling last week. Good news is Craig had a good size of HALIBUT (see pictures below). Chuck did pretty good -2 big lings. I also heard Fuzz got a big HALIBUT, but did not see it. I let Fuzz and Freddie chime in for their accomplishments. Bill has a limit of rockies. We called off 11:30AM.

In general, I conceded it was not as good as last week. Bites were sparse today, while bites were wide open last week. We paddled a quite bit to locate fish. Either fish were not hungry or fish were gone out of this area.  :smt010

Thanks for being good company and we should do it again in the future.

A Nice halibut - You may see that Craig had hard time to hold it up for pictures.

Don't let Allen's wife read these reports......or she'll shave him!  Nice fish, Craig.

I forget to mention that during the battle, I gave Craig assist. I used  my 4ft net and had netted a few times. it was too small.  :smt009 I was kind of nervous --  afraid that fish might got free anytime. We quickly got a big net on hand. With a big net, it was captured.

Nice fish there. The head of the cabezon looks like a big bottlecap. The halibut looks pretty sweet.
The other pic definitely show much more calmer glassy water unlike we had yesterday.

thanks for the props all - it was my first halibut ever, let alone from a yak... Caught it on a 4-oz iron (thanks again Chris, haha!) tipped with Eric's squid.  Eric was so cool to offer to help net it - finally - and club it - again and again - until it needed it again by which time i had it on board and offered up that time.

About an hour before I hooked it, I lost a big ling at the surface, by bringing it up too fast, and Chuck and the others told me I need to go slower and work the fish up gradually.  That lesson was quite timely - thanks again!

Next time I will have my big net already out and ready to go...   :smt011
Come to think of it, I will have my gaff ready too.

The bite was pretty slow, except for gophers, which I am starting to think would probably bite on a salad fork if I tied one on.  But the weather was great and the launch and landing was as easy as Eric said.  Yeah Jason - this week looks pretty rough after tomorrow morning, but who knows, it might lay back down by next Sunday.

Despite the slow bite, Eric caught a lot of (at least 4) nice legal cabbies, and nice coppers, and Chuck had a very good day also.

The other halibut (Fuzz's?) was as big as mine, I heard...  Hope to see some more photos!

Thanks to all for the great company.

Now I am hoping that someone finds our Sac salmon!!!!

Guys... congrats on another great day.  Cograts on your Halibut Craig... very nice fish.  Landing them can be dicey as you found out.  The "bring em up slower" advice was good advice.  I find with Halibut that if you're gentle with them you can get them to the surface and into a net with very minimal fight (then they go ballistic of course).  Slow and steady wins the race.

Craig...  next time I see pictures of you I expect to see one of those CAT hats on your head... :smt002

Good work and congratulations again!

Haha!  Thanks John and Erik.  Chuck said now I can't hide anymore under the newbie disguise...

Erik, you know what, those CAT hats are hot commodities...  I was approached at Elk by not one, but 2!! NCKAers who asked if they could have em....  Seeing that I got a little bit more lucky then than I normally do (today being an exception also) I decided to spread the CAT wealth, so to speak, as it was sincerely much appreciated by them.  (I was told they are collector's items, in fact.)

But obviously I am wearin the karma!  So thanks for making that happen!

(Sean and gto Eric are wearin the hats... hehe)

Long day + tired = short report

Despite the slow bite, Fred & I managed to squeak out some quality fish!

My 40" halibut   :smt007, landed with the assistance of Fred who put it to sleep for me.   :smt004
2 limits of nice lings, anchored by Fred's 38" lingcod! :smt107 Huge!
My 10# Cabezon :smt003, and the 23" cab that Fred released under the impression that it was a baby.  :smt102
Fred's trio of big reds, my lone fat brown rockfish, and a handful of sand dabs.   :fish

Weekend is over... back to work  :busy

BTW - eyeatbay, I believe those are brown rockfish, not coppers.   :smt002
