FAOTY 2014 fish entries and leader board

Caught a 7 inch redear sunfish this morning at Delta Meadows state park on a size 16 orange scud.

 

Caught a 13.5" smallie and a 18 lmb at Berryessa on Saturday, the day before the tournament of course.  Both with my tied size 8 black wiggle tail, intermediate line on a 5 weight rod.

Nice largemouth Scott. You definitely have that wiggle tail setup dialed.

Went out to the south delta with fellow coworker Brandon (aka Bam) this morning and caught a 19 inch striper on a clouser style shad immitation and a 13.5 inch largemouth on a Bisharat Bubblelicious.

The Salmon Slam at Berryessa was good to me, a Black Wooly Bugger with a purple tail fooled most of my fly caught bass.
Couldn't buy a bite with any other techniques during the tourney LOL!
This 17" Smallie took a while to get to the net!

Tony, I do not believe that is a smallie, a spot would be my guess.  Smallies don't usually have those vertical bars on them.

I didn't feel for the double tooth patches on the tongue as I have caught a bunch of smallies that have displayed similar markings.
I have caught hybrids from Folsom, but I hear it is almost impossible to I.D. positively without a dna test LOL!
I usually go by this: if the jaw ends at the middle of the eye = smallie; end of the eye = spot; past the eye LMB.
Of course I could be wrong, and welcome any debate

That being said ... I'm guessing hybrid for Tony's fish.

You can't tell with the jaw placement between SMB and Spot. They both are not past the eye, but can be from the front, middle or rear, just not past. The tell tale sign on this one is the finely defined rows of spots in the belly area. They are obscured by some blotchyness too. Which in my opinion says hybrid. The horizontal band is a much more spot like and fairly defined as horizontal.  SMB have very defined vertical barring, almost belly to upper back, with a few spots over that on occasion, or no barring. A spot has the tooth patch, but smallmouth can have a tooth patch too.  LMB no tooth patch, but a small portion of LMB may have a patch too.

Just my observation of this fish. It can count either way this year if it shows signs of SMB or Spot. I would call it spot.
