So I bought a 98 dodge grand caravan from a brother of NCKA. It has the 3.3 v6 and automatic trans. I went to get it smogged and the check engine light came on. I replaced the o2 sensor as that was indicated by the scan. To make a long storey short, I have now replaced 5 of the 2 o2 sensors, complete tune up, abs fuse, and a few other issues and still the light comes on and the tags are over due and no smog :0(
I will not give up on the van as the brother who sold me the van has since passed. Any help at this point is gladly welcomed.

Right on bro! And you're local too. I believe we've met at HMB old pier parking lot one time before the rf season ended. I think that was when your buddy flipped his yak.

Yakhopper, have you considered replacing the ecu? I have a ford f250 that had the check engine light on for the longest time. Tried to replace a bunch of parts and a few shops later, still wouldn't turn off. Finally decided to change the ECU and the light was gone. It even fixed the rough tranny shifting that I was occasionally having. Just a thought. I'm not a mechanic or anything. The only problem is the wait. You have to send your old unit to them and they'll either fix it or send you a different one based on your car's specs, vin, etc.

I have a smog q for diesels.  First smog I had to do was 2 years ago. The tests were all visual, 5 mins and i was done, really wasn't a test at all.

Had to resmog for registration this year and took it to a new shop cause my normal guy was on vacation.  These guys did the visual but also hooked it up to a scanner and started doin all kinds of other shit that took over a half hour.  Has the state made the diesel smog test more stringent?

I passed no problem, everything is stock and runnin well, I just thought it was weird that these guys were monkeying around with my truck for so long.

There is a new scanner called "DAD" that is going to be mandatory i believe in april at latest that all shops must have. Havent used or got it yet but but just hooks up through obd2 port and checks all fuctions. From what ive heard its only a 10-15 min process max (gas and diesel). Not sure what they were doing though :smt012. Any aftermarket add ons you got? Takes me a little bit longer cause you have to verify everything is CA legal. But yeah, diesel is all visual inspection (for now) :smt009
