I got a Humminbird based on the fact that the Predator comes with a Humminbird transducer scupper. I also bought the kit that the Old Town support guy recommended me (http://store.oceankayak.com/products/479766/Ultra_Transducer_Kit) but guess what  it does work with my transducer as it is a different shape (longer and skinnier - http://store.humminbird.com/products/411808/XNT_9_DI_T).

So know I'm looking for advise on how to mount it?

I just bought the boat a week or so ago, haven't even hit the water yet and so far haven't had any luck with everything I've tried to do (beside what my initially experience with Dan). Must be what every newbie has to go thru :-)
I knew I should have brought my FF when I got my yak at Headwaters....

Call up Humminbird Customer service.  They make a transducer that will fit that scupper well.  They should take an even trade with you for your current transducer.

A little bit of shipping and yer looking down!

Good, cause I have a 600 series and the transducer is different, but still down image Transd.

Check their website and see if you can ID the correct transducer prior to your call.

I called customer service and they told me that the kayak compatible transducer doesn't not support DI... So they offered me to got with a transducer that will fit the scupper hole but then DI won't work (how good of a solution is that).
I guess both Old Town and Humminbird forgot to mention that... and as I got the ff for Xmas it is more than 30 days ago and I can't return anymore :smt013  If I knew of this limitation I would have gone with a different model and even potentially brand. Way to go Johnson

So be aware of the limitation and the fact that it is NOT documented!!!

Hello Frenchy, where did you get the FF from?  Most places have extended return for christmas season.

It was nice meeting you at the ISE, and remember what I said about you know who.

The description for the transducer kit says you can use the transducer you have just without the rubber boot. You should try that first before switching transducers. Good luck!

Thanks for the advise. I got it at Walmart and after checking, it looks like I have 90 days to return it...

I tried that before I returned the kit and it didn't work for me; it looked like the cable was not aligned with the hole but maybe I'm a bit challenged....

I don't think this is true any more. I emailed Humminbird about swapping for the scupper transducer for a 570. They said they will exchange the transducer but I would have to pay the $60 price difference plus $15 shipping.

I did it less than a year ago for no cost.  I did call though, not e-mailed.

So here is the end of the story. I contacted back Humminbird and the only options they offered were in hull or external.
Then I tried again Old Town thru their Facebook page and they connected me with the mechanical engineer from their R&D facility. Here too the recommendation ended up being in hull setup....
Well I still didn't want to give up and gave it another try but again not successful or should I say not good enough. So I finally ended up returning it (thanks to bmb 2.0  :smt001).

Now I need to get another ff and hopefully it will fir the scupper hole of the Predator...
I know I need to give up down imaging but I will still like GPS. Any recommendation on a specific model?
I do like the size of the 500 series but they don't seem to have one with GPS but no DI...
Oh and by the way I'd like to stay in the same price range (~$300)

Frenchy,

I've been communicating with Bill (fishingforthecure(?)) who works with Lowrance and I think he has a fix for our kayaks.

Bill can you explain your Lowrance option?
