I was just looking at the map and a pretty decent size lake is nearby, lake elsman.

Does anyone have the 411 on this place.  Looks like it might be fun if you could fish it.

Not sure if it's open to public as I saw the following on this site:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/10/02/SPGRFF13FD1.DTL

"Santa Clara County: Public banned at Calaveras Reservoir, Lake Elsman and Felt Lake; Palo Alto residents only at Boronda Lake; no boating at Arastradero, Sandy Wool, Cunningham, Cottonwood or Almaden."

Bummer.

I've poached felt lake when I was in high school, and I have fished baronda lake a bunch when younger (grew up in Palo Alto).

Ah well.

I fished Arastradero with a one-man inflatable raft when I was a greenhorn (screw the rules :smt002) = did not catch ANYTHING  :smt011 I then heard that this area was populated with plenty of rattle snakes....never been back since  :smt009

Thanks for the article Marmite. Dunno know much about the ramifications of using it but I've been staring at Crystal Springs since I was a kid. Always wondered why boating was ok in Stevens Creek and Lex and not CS. Sure the fishing would be nuts for a while and sailing would be great. Up to the Governator :smt068 on Oct. 9... sounds like a longshot but pretty dreamy.

Lake Elsman is not open to the public.  I took a drive to it and was promptly met on the (public) road, near a gate, by the San Jose water district gastapo.  He was very rude, and the guy I was with was not happy with his rudeness and ready to to put a thump on the guy! We couln't get past the lock gate so we never got to see the actual lake.
