Just to clarify
Does the rules say we can only turn in one (1) of each species?

Yes.   :smt001

From the rules which are attached to the end of the first post in this thread:

"The scoring is based on AOTY as run at NCKA.ORG.  Points per inch are allowed for your best fish in 6 different species to be scored as follows:
a.   Salmon –    5 points/inch
b.   Halibut –    5 points/inch
c.   Lingcod –    5 points/inch
d.   Cabezon – 7 points/inch
e.   Rockfish –  7 points/inch
f.   Greenling – 11 points/inch
This year’s catch and release bonus only applies to your largest fish for that species, and you get a set amount – if you measure and release a legally caught fish and get a clear photo of it on a standard measuring device you get the bonus points if you didn’t keep a longer one.  The bonus wll be one point per inch of the released fish, so a 19” rockfish would earn 19 bonus points, and a 40 inch lingcod would earn 40 bonus points.  No release bonus for salmon or halibut."

Does the rules say that we only can claim the c-n-r on our largest of a species?

Yes.   :smt001  It's the Honor System, and it encourages people to keep releasing larger and larger fish - something that I swear by, personally.

It says the prizes will be for the top places only, does this mean top 2, 3, 5, or 10 or ?

Good question - it will be limited to probably the top few or several...  Depends how prize acquisition goes, and much of the prizes are going to the auction which is to benefit PIF and HOW.  The bottom line is that I'm not planning to 'go deep' in the prizes like last year where 27th place got a prize.  I'm de-emphasizing prizes.  Yes, there are major, "premium level" prizes being awarded to the overall points champ (Grand Prize - Malibu's new X-Caliber), Biggest Lingcod (longest actually, gets a Wilderness Systems T140), I have trophies in the works, and there are other premium prizes TBA, but the overall de-emphasis of prizes needs to be understood for what it is - I'm not looking to gather and distribute as many prizes as possible.

While I'm at it here, I wanted to mention for those who may not understand how an event like this is ultimately structured, regarding your investment, what I owe you if you register, and recourse.  I am receiving the entry fee and immediately responding with communication (everyone gets a welcome email) and action on your behalf.  I build the tournament schwag, create, submit and distribute the gear order (a huge job), and plan the entire event based on those who've signed up.  Please understand this if you sign up:  you don't have the right to call or email back and get a refund.  If you're not into laying $25 out for a t-shirt, some tackle and a few other schwag items along with entry in the tournament (which will happen rain or shine and even if we have to fish inside the breakwater), then please don't enter!  In years past if someone missed the tourney or found out late that they would miss, it seems that I've gotten a few messages which indicated that there may be an expectation for a refund.  The deal works like this:  if you don't make it I send you your schwag (or a member/friend brings it to you) and you missed the tourney - it's that simple.  There's no refund because I'm making gear for you, planning on your presence, and my part is that I show up with a crapload of gear, get it all to the rightful owners, put on the tournament, award the prizes, hopefully remember to thank everyone!, and have the best time I can along with my fam.

Sorry for the ramble.   :smt001

Reading's good for you, and reading this entire thread is a good thing to do if you want to know what's going on...  Good questions, Eric.  I'm glad you asked them.

The only change I desire for this year's tourney is for me to order a Large shirt instead of Medium :smt044
I gained 7 lbs which brought me to the Large section of the shirt pile.
Registration soon to be in the mail Eric :smt003

Surfperch are no longer worthy of the GS scoreboard, Pat.   :smt001

You can still come down for pre or post fishing, Cam!  And the Hike and Dive on Monday will be a good time.   :smt001  Good luck on your finals!

If you can't make the event itself, at least try to get down for part of the 5 days around it.  That's my advice.   :smt001

BTW, Jim Russell - Thank you for those awesome pics of past GS adventures.   :smt001

I'm on an old work computer that happens to house some pertinent pics...  (my home unit crashed just before New Years and I have yet to determine whether I can access much of my old data (4 years of photos/HD vids...).  I'll post what I can from here and be glad for it...

When you go to a place like Shelter Cove - wild, remote, mysterious...  You give yourself a chance at not only a fish of a lifetime, but you also get a chance at the time of your life.  It's not a line...
