Great pics Hojo and Piski!  Piski, that 23" verm and octopus are rad!  I'd love to hook into an octopus one of these days.  How deep were you fishing when you hooked the octo?

About 45' deep for the octopuss. Thought I was snagged up when I hooked it, just dead weight to pull up. I've been chided for not keeping it. Adam, don't tell Linda I caught it!  :smt005

Seems like verms are relatively shallow at Shelter -- all 3 of mine were in water no deeper than 50'. The fatty looks a little popped but it went down on its own.

Almost forgot to post the all important red can -

Thank You Eric for hosting another stellar GS. The best one ever. I've said before that one can plan an event, but you can not plan the weather. Sure love it when it all comes together.
Hojoman, I made a birthday wish, that you buy a Roadtrek just like the one Martin purchased. Howard we all want you to know how much we value your skill.
Marvin, the pizza was superb. Kayak Jack how the heck did I miss your tacos, all these years. A real tasty reward was at the end of that line. We had fun, fun and more fun.

I'm not sure if I have words to fully explain how much fun it was to be at Shelter this year and what a awesome experience I had with all of the great people. Many thanks to Eric, your family, all of the folks that helped to support, prep, and carry off such an epic event for all to enjoy! (Definitely want to give a special shout out to Hojoman - awesome pics dude) The weather and the vibe couldn't have been more warm and inviting-truly wonderful. Hiking the lost coast was magical, wished we could have stayed longer. Here are a couple of pics to add into the great story. Mike

Thank you, Eric, for another wonderful event. I don't know how you do it...I'd probably work myself into a nervous/anxious wreck by the time we suited up for gameday. It must feel so cathartic by the time it's over.

Also thanks to everybody who helped make my family feel welcomed. They had a great time. This was a very different experience for me...compared to previous Gimme Shelters. GS8 transformed from a hardcore fishing adventure into a quaint family getaway. Because normally my wife hates the long drive and complains that I ditch her (with the kids) to hang out with my fishin buddies. Which is probably half-true [albeit unintentional]. So I didn't expect her to come with this year. But when I insisted she would have a good time, she called my bluff!

We were there for 4 days and I fished for maybe 5hrs total (morning of the tourney). Crazy right? Especially for me. We spent the whole time enjoying the Cove and playing with the kids. I probably took a hundred photos--and not a single fish pic!!! Normally fish pics account for 80% of my photos LOL... Again, crazy. But it was totally worth it. Carrie had such a good time that we're planning a return trip next month.

Here's the only pic I took with fish in it haha...

Standing watch

I took the kids out on the Jackson Coosa and they had so much fun.

Way to go, Family Guy!!

I want GS to turn into more and more of a family event instead of a place to get drunk at the campground (not that GS is just a place to get drunk in the campground...).  I enjoy a few beers, but I'm proud to say I was never more than a bit buzzed over the GS weekend.  Lots of work to do, but more importantly I want to see my family have a great time, I want to visit with good friends that I may only see once or twice a year, and I want the vibe of the Cove and our collective positivity to make getting drunk a waste of time!

We are a family, and GS is a great place for our individual families too.  Keep rockin' the water and the shore.  Love is where it's at.

Wow, great family photos, Pat! The kids look like they were having a lot of funny, being silly - it makes the parents happy, the fun grows. Very cool, thanks for sharing that perspective. I gotta get my family to attend, too. I think by next year my youngest sun will up for fishing the event also. I'm looking forward to That!

Just reading a bit of HMB stuff from the opener down there, and it sounds like yakkers in the water (non-NCKA?...) were an issue - not good!   :smt009

It made me realize how cool it was that, to my knowledge, there were NO capsizings at GS this year!  Wow.  Thank you.  WTG.

No doubt for sure! The whole time down here I was wishing I had my family with me. I have decided I will bring the boys to this event every time from now on. It is such as special place that is best shared with the whole family. Can't wait to do it again next year! But watch out the Ling Slinger will hopefully out on the water with Dad.

Sorry to bust the bubble but I had a capsized once playing in the surf. All my gear was stowed below deck and nothing was lost, except a little pride. See photo below. If it looks like its going to end bad, its because it did. haha.
