Humbolt Squid

Havent heard A peep about these at all yet... They were abundant this time last year... Any word out there????

Them squid is on my "bucket list" of fishing to do!

lets go in a party boat when they get here.

It is an "El Niño" year so as soon as the water gets a little warmer.

Can't wait!

Caught these in 09.  Averaged about 40lbs. Helluva fight.

You need a tuna rod and reel for those guys. I went around that same time frame fishing in 700 feet of water.
Caught 13, 40 to 50 lb ers and lost around 5 on the surface.

Think old school rock cod gear with the rail plate.

I used those for bait at Crabfest last weekend.  50 cents per lbs.

I went out of Bodega with Capt. Rick Powers.....the guy is quite the character.
Not sure if he's the best guy but the boat had like 200+ caught the day I went.
The cost was about 100 bucks per person. Then you have to buy the lures.
The big squid lure was about 20 bucks on board but you can pick them up for cheaper online.
I came home with about 120 lbs of cleaned squid bodies. What a freaking mess that boat was it is a unique
fishing experience.
They will clean them on board for a price and they keep the tentacles for crab bait.
