I thought about you a lot, after leaving, Don.  The hours you put in all night before, the full day, the LONG drive home, then putting all the stuff away.  Just doing for myself; putting away and stowing my own stuff and only a 45 minute drive was wiping me out.

I sure hope that a trailer is going to happen soon!

Thanks,

I know what I signed up for long ago…  it just not sustainable and there are easier ways…  were getting there and again, y'all rock!!!

Be nice to make all the gear easier so we could give Kayakjack more help…  he reinvents the wheel each time too…  just shopping alone for that many people is a chore not too mention prep, set up, cooking, cleaning, cooking , cleaning, breakdown, pack up , get home unload….

were learning, and every time it gets easier...

we were looking at Mike Mowreys trailer at 16',  it was getting the job done, we could get away with 20',  I still think a little larger would go a long ways,  no pun intended…  :smt003

Don,
Have you thought about approaching a trailer dealer to see about getting a NEW trailer donated?  There are several trailer dealers in the Galt/highway 99 area.

The bigger the better. Ideally it would hold at least a dozen kayaks, paddles, poles,Tackle boxes, pfds,a box of paddle clothing, camp stove w griddle, fry pan, bbq, 2 propane bottles,big-ass ice chest.tables,E-Z ups, banners.
Shit, what we need is a school bus towing a trailer

The bigger the trailer the fewer people we have to tow it. Right now my f350 can do it no problem. But others trucks need to be equipped with brakes, etc. Also, I have seen and heard of several trucks not large enough for the job crash while towing. Emergency stops, blow outs, getting cut off, trailer pushing truck down hill and jack knifing truck. I've seen a lot in the couple hundred thousand miles of heavy towing I've done.  The trailer at 22' will weigh around 3500-4000 lbs with no gear. I think 22' should be the max we get.

Looks kool skipro…

I have not hit up a dealerships yet, I have tried at private parties as that has worked for other chapters, but no luck to date.  As we get more funds towards the summer, we will be on the hunt.  I'm trusting RacinRacidRob on what we need, and if he says 22" is the max, I believe it. a 20' enclosed trailer would most likely be fine, and a little less weight.

My suburban is a tough machine, even thought the tranny just went again... :smt011 ( under warrantee, all good.. :smt004 ) but we do need to think about towing and maneuverability not too mention storage, which I have none right now.

How about 2 trailers, one for the heavy stuff like boats with PFD's in the boats, the other one for fishing rods/tackle and paddles.  The gear trailer could be smaller too, so many people could tow it with SUV or small trucks like mine ;) (though I can tow almost 5K)
The other good thing about this is that if one is lost you don't loose everything....

Just a thought

For fuel efficiency the angled nose helps, but you lose some interior space. I would rather have a square nose personally. Easier to hang storage cabinets for PFD's etc.

2 trailers is twice the hassle and storage. One will be fine. If we "lose" one that is what insurance is for.

A roller rack for kayaks is a good idea with a winch to drag it in. PFD racks in the front, paddle racks on the wall, storage cabinet for eating supplies, cups etc. all easy to do once we have the trailer. Whip it out in a few days.
I have ideas and trailer connections, we just need the cash first.

Don,

Our trailer here holds 16 kayaks as well as all the gear stashed in compartments below the kayaks. HOW in North Dallas has two of them. They are pretty sturdy but you need to be tall to load the top racks.

I don't know how much they cost, but we once had one of those covered ones and it was a pain, according to George. Maybe this is the way y'all should go too.

I've seen that trailer, and George and I talked about it.  We just have too much gear that we need in one place and I do see the hassle with loading them into an enclose rig, but we need that kind of storage…

it's still not out of the question as we would need that enclosed trailer to be pretty well organized and George's trailer does hold a lot of gear…

I think I have more close up pics of that trailer somewhere …

Kathy's trailer at Delta Adventures gets it done too...

Hey if you guys want a trailer to work from. And modify to what you want. I have an old tent trailer trailer that I ripped the trailer off and was planning on making it like a toy hauler for my bike quads and trips to the dump. Right now it's just sitting at my buddy's house and I've been trying to find a place that will just come get it cause I've lost interest. I have the title in hand it tows fine but will need a light set and a temp I'd tag to pull it I think the license plate I be leave went to the dump. The beds 1/4 removed to show the frame below. It's been wrapped in aluminum and foam and I wanted to put just plywood down. If your interested or even know a recycled that will take it it's yours as a donation
