This was forwarded to me.

d.. War
on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 48
years to get it right;
$1 trillion of our
money is confiscated each year and transferred
to "the
poor" and they only want
more.

Folks,
keep this circulating. It is very well stated.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We're
"broke" & can't help our own Seniors,
Veterans, Orphans, Homeless
etc.,???????????

Our retired
seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no
extra aid nor do they get any special
breaks--nadda beyond shopping
discounts...

Seems like paragraph d says screw the orphans, homeless and elderly. Then the article complains that we can't help our poor. Pretty clear you don't care about the poor. This article isn't well stated at all.  :smt102

How do you figure it is clear what I feel about the poor?

If it was up to me education would be free to anyone that wanted to do the work. Also anyone that needed money could have something meaningful to do to make enough to at least survive. Simply giving money away is not caring for the poor. It just perpetuates it. Of course this does not apply to the truly needy, and those truly unable to work. Too many people choose a handout over a hand up.

Groan.... Forum piscatororium!

piscatororium!? :?: :?: :smt102 :smt044

Torium is a Suffix added to a the root or stem of a Verb to produce a noun.

The Action (verb ) is now happening in the Place (noun).

The students Dormi (sleep) in the Dormi-Torium (place).

That means that:forum pisca(fish)- torium, is a fishing place. NOT FOR POLITICS!

Cool, something even Google didn't understand. I thought general talk covered everything. If politics is out of bounds I can delete it.

No need to delete it. Just keep it civil in here, fellas.

FWIW - I work right down the street from Wal-Mart and I'm in there literally 2-4 times a week. I guess I've grown up in a time and/or places where there already weren't too many "mom and pop" shops around.

If I didn't buy most of my stuff from Wal-Mart where would I get it from? Safeway? Lucky's? Are these considered "mom and pop" shops? Are these "better" alternatives?

Other than fishing tackle what do you anti-Wal-Mart guys really buy from "mom and pop" shops? Or should I ask what would you buy from "mom and pop" shops if the evil that is Wal-Mart hadn't already put these people out of business?

I buy where I buy. Deals are deals. I have talked to WalMart employees several times and they say what you here and what is actually the case are two different things. The employees I talk too are happy there and make decent money.

it's people choice what to buy and where. I shopped in W-M only 3 times during last 16 years.
right now I have even personal reason to avoid this business.

but again it's just my personal choice.

this thread is more relates that we need people with real business experience to start running our country again. the current elite are too greedy and do not let other ppl to live.

I think the message here is that we need better people in government and I don't think anyone would disagree, liberal, moderate or conservative. Running a business is different than running a democracy but some leadership skills apply to both. I think talking about specific legislation might be a more productive discussion than these more broad concerns. For example, it would be interesting to hear how the experience was for people who used Covered California.

I think it went OK for me, but I am still not sure if I am covered.  I have an appointment with my physician next week, and I'll let you know if I was covered or not.  :smt003

Agreed, although it is kinda amusing to hear a simpleton explain how Walmart's ability to sell Chinese toaster ovens compares to generating and delivering electricity to millions of people.

Isn't it funny where topics and conversations turn in winter after the salt water closes to kayak fishing?

Thanks, I too hope it will be civil. I'm sure many government programs have lofty goals and good intentions. Things just aren't working out. I don't know if everyone really comprehends the national debt. If every star in the Milky Way was a dollar of debt we would owe 56 Milky Way galaxy's worth. That is just the national debt. Then there is all the money we have promised to pay. Money to pay back what was borrowed from the social security fund. Money to cover the costs of Medicare and Medicaid. Money for so many underfunded pensions. Money that so many people rightfully count on to live out their retirement years. We have around 128 trillion dollars of unfunded liabilities. That's another 426 Milky Way galaxies worth of dollars. If you count all the dollars in the world including all the funny money the Fed "prints" there is only 10.5 trillion in existence. How can we ever imagine we can come up with $145 trillion dollars to cover the debt and unfunded liabilities when we can't even pay this years expenses without borrowing $680 billion dollars. If we have to borrow $680 billion to get through this year, what has to be cut in order to stop borrowing and actually pay some of the money we owe. The politicians act like the world is ending if they talk about cutting 1/10 of a percent of the budget. We would have to cut this years budget by 20% just to stop borrowing money. We would then have to cut the budget by another 42% to pay what we owe over 100 years. So if the politicians have a plan that would require us to cut our current budget by 60% to pay what we owe over a hundred year period, how is that going to help the poor? What happens if interest rates jump and we have to pay a lot more in interest on our debt? Helping the poor is very noble. How good will it be if we end up so broke that we can't even afford to give them soup much less food and cash and cell phones and health care. Breaking the bank is much more harmful in the long run.

Now I know these numbers are estimates and different people give different estimates. No matter how you estimate the numbers, I don't see how anyone can think we are on a path that can be sustained. How do we fix it? That's a whole other topic. I would start by taking the money out of elections so we would have a chance of getting good honest uncorrupted people running for office. Not anti democrat or republican, not anti rich or poor. Just pro common sense get the job done. I love all you guys whether you agree or not!  :smt008
