Sic transit gloria mundi = All glory is fleeting. It was quoted in the movie "Patton".

"For over a thousand years Roman conquerors returning from the wars
enjoyed the honor of triumph, a tumultuous parade. The conqueror rode
in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before
him. And a slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown and
whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting."

A warning to not let success get to your head. Goes way back historically.

Patton huh my grand father was his personal radio man in WWII for a short while early on thru Sicily  then got transferred (said he was the biggest asshole he'd ever met) he was supposed to go in on Omaha but came down with some std. And was pulled out. He was part of the original OSS ended the war working underground with the French underground  calling in artillery. He left the army and went to work with nasa. He was the one talking to butch Armstrong  on all the recordings.

Sorry end of thread jack.

If you can't make it through Patton, it is also quoted in Rushmore.  :smt001

also, don't apologize for a threadjack here. I started this thread as a not-at-all-serious smack talk comment.  Anything goes :smt003
