Myself and MolBasser are gonna go out to the Capitola kelpmats and fish for those crazy mini-tuna and any other fish we can get on lightweight gear. The forecast says the surf should be calm and the weather warm (70). Anyone who can make it is welcome.. come on down :smt006 VHF ch.69

WHAT TIME WERE YOU THINKING  GOING OUT. I JUST STARTED SWING AT MY JOB AND CAN FISH UNTIL AROUND 12:30 ONE'ISH. SOUNDS LIKE FUN. I WAS AT SANTA CRUZ ON SAT AND SUNDAY. I BOUGHT ONE OF THOSE ROTO CUPS WERE YOU PUT A ANCHOVIE IN WITH THE TOOTHPICK AND TROLL. I GOT IT FOR LING BUT I THINK IT WORKS BETTER FOR MACKEREL AND SMELT. I HAD TO STOP SO  MANY TIMES FOR THE DAM MACKEREL JUST LEAVING THE PIER I JUST PULLED IT UP AND PADDELD OUT TO MY SPOT. THE SAME THING ON THE WAY BACK BUT THIS TIME IT WAS THE SMELT HITTING LEAVING THE KELP BEDS. ONE HIT JUST AS I SET IT IN THE WATER I DID NOT EVEN HAVE A CHANCE TO OPEN THE BAIL.

I've never launched there either.

I think the story is that you offload your yak at the beach and park up the hill.  I need to figure it out tomorrow.

If today is a good reference it will be a simple beach launch into ankle slappers.  The swell was teensy and wind fairly light today at around noon.

Word is apparently that you can lauch off of the pier too, but I didn't explore this option.  There are two hour meters right at the beach, and 12 hour meters up the hill.

I plan on getting there around 8 am and dropping off my yak on the beach and parking up the hill.

Molbasser and Zlander,
Enjoyed our last hookup....
My yak is a tandem and a partner and i are going to Chabot Lake for trout and crappie in the morning. Will see if he would like to divert to Capitol nothing like grilled or broiled macks...
Thanks Frankfishing

Would be cool Frankf. Yeah the Macks I caught were pretty darn tasty.. now I think I see why other fish llike em so much as bait  :smt005 :smt005

I usually launch at New Brighton Beach. It's $6 to park all day and they have some facilities to use for that (showers and bathrooms.. maybe even a place to clean fish... haven't checked yet). It's kind of a pain dragging the kayak across the beach but other than the pier I dn't think there's any other option. You also get a little workout paddling to the kelp from NBB.

That's just my little zen routine anyway :smt003
