I'm in the market for my first fishing PFD and I think I have narrowed it down to the stohlquist fisherman and the nrs chinook anyone have any opinions on what one to get?

I like the Stohlquist because of the stiffer material. Less chance of hooks snagging.

They are both good options. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I use the Chinook and I love it

The front pockets on the Stohlquist have a hard shell which protects cameras and makes it easier to self rescue. I have used one for 7 years and consider it to be the standard.

I have an "Ascend" PFD that I picked up at Basspro. It's made by Stohlquist and is almost identical to the Fisherman, only $30 cheaper.

Haven't given the ascend much thought after I was less than impressed by their SOT fishing yak

Neither did I, until I seen Stohlquist on the tag. Lol.

I have the NRS Chinook. Bought it because I like the pocket design.

I have one too, works as good as my Stohlquist Fisherman.

Both are good i decided to go with the NRS Chinook.. tons of pocket space..comes with a lanyard I use to clip my crab measuring ruler.. even has tiny pockets in the upper right side for small things like my allergy meds or motion sickness pills if things get real rocky. Also very comfortable.

The only thing I don't like about the stohlquist is the boob pockets
