Hey there -- I've been lurking around for the last week and NCKA has taught me a hell of a lot already. For somebody who's mostly paddled in rivers and lakes, the safety section's a public service.

I'll be going out for crab at Half Moon Bay this weekend, and just wanted to say thanks.

Please be careful out of HMB this weekend.  The swell period is short and the height is high ... meaning it will be steep.  With a SSW swell, it will also have some funky peaks every now and then when they align.  I wouldn't go Saturday.  And if the swell is 7x10 on Sunday, I'd avoid that too.  It may be doable, but it sure would be uncomfortable.

Saturday: NNW wind 14 to 17 kt. Partly sunny. Mixed swell...NW 7 ft at 9 seconds and SSW 1 ft at 14 seconds. Wind waves around 2 ft.

Saturday Night: N wind 5 to 13 kt. Mostly clear. Mixed swell...NW 7 ft at 10 seconds and SSW 1 ft at 13 seconds. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Sunday: NNE wind around 6 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt in the morning. Sunny. Mixed swell...NW 7 ft and SSW 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Sunday Night: NNW wind 5 to 7 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt in the evening. Clear. Mixed swell...NW 7 ft and SSW 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

That's a great observation and acknowledgement for the community.   :smt001

Sunday looking better. The swell is lengthening out to a super long, 17 second period.

You were right about the swells, Allen - I stuck to fishing from the pier Saturday.

Sunday the swells were fine but the crabbing was rough... Only keeper dungeness I saw were the ones I bought at the roadside stand. Apparently everyone else fishing close into the harbor had a terrible day, too.
