I've been wanting to get out to do some dabbing.  Is anyone interested?

I'd prefer HMB but don't mind getting out to Monterey if necessary.  I don't have any known spots so it'll be one of those things where I search for them and hope I find a few.

Feel free to send me info if you have it.  :smt003

I might also be able to go on Saturday but I'd have to be home by about 3 PM.

Andy, Daniel & a few others of us found them in Monterey near the Red can off the Aquarium.  Some smalls but most were in the 8-10" range ~100/120 FOW.

I've only ever fished them in Monterey, Angel.
Last year we did best on 190-200FOW. They were thick, with the larger ones in deeper water. I think I ended up with 40, so it was a dab feast for the entire household.

I would up with 33 from the red can.  Leisurely fishing 1 sabiki rig for just a little over 1-1/2 hours.

I can see that you've really bought out the intelligence now that you're not a MOD.

thanks for the info so far everyone, keep it coming.

Let me know if you're interested in going out to catch some, it's been a long time since I've targetted them and I've been wanting to get out for a while now.

They have been spotty in hmb in shallow. There are some around the pp buoy. It's way better further out in 200fow. That's a bit of a paddle. Mntry would be a better bet

Hey Angel,

Right outside the harbor in HMB is good for dab'ing.... Most areas with sand will hold sanddabs; I just usually drift this rig across the sand bottom for awhile and then reel'm up, most time with multiple hookups.....

sorr for my crayon drawing; only have the "Paint" app on the federal computer....

I might consider a Monterey run on Sunday but too many variables right now to make that call for certain.

Listen to Sharky he knows what's up. I usually do well out of hmb in about 90' straight out. Sometimes they com in much closer basically right off the reef but it varies season to season.

90' is a bit of a paddle too at hmb.

I think there are a lot in shallow at HMB, but they are all like 3-4 inches long.  At least it seems I get those stuck in my crab pots all chewed to hell by the crabs.

Not sure if it is legal, but I often think about stringing a sabiki inside my pots and let them self bait as the dabs get hooked, then munched on by the crab, then a new one comes and takes that one's place.

So now that Art isn't spending so much time baby sitting you all and turning the levers that make your lives go 'round (aka Moderating) he seems to have some time to fish and enjoy life.

Unless something changes we'll be launching out of Monterey tomorrow morning (Saturday) at about 7:30 ish.  Not sure exactly from where but we'll probably end up at the red can. Company welcome!

I got an 8" dab in a hoop net today at HMB.  And there were a lot of what looked to be chovies around.  The birds were having a hey day as we were leaving.
