It was a great honor and pleasure to be on board the Islander with the coolest and closest friends :)  It was one of the best fishing trips I've ever had. And to do it with some of the best muggles topped it off!! Much love and respect you you all, including the Islander crew  :smt001

If Kiel was fishing bait, that was probably a fur bag. They hang out around boats on the anchor at night.

He thumbed the spool and that's when it broke.  Rookie move 😜.  Happened to me on my big Hali on the islander last year.

After being nearly spooled, Keil was able to retrieve over 50% of his line before breaking.  He was running a 20lbs leader.  A Seal would have immediately spooled him and been gone.  There were several Batrays caught each night as well as during the day.  I believe it was a large Batray.  The Captain also thought this by observing the fight.

I think Keil broke off not due to a "rookie move", but because we were just having silly fun knowing it was not a gamefish.  Should that have been more "gamefishy" fight, he would have been more carefull.  We were also slightly inebriated at this time.

Fishing Day 1 continued...

We loaded everybody up on the big boat to have lunch and make a move to the other side of the island.

Andy and Kris were left bobbing around in the Pacific for quite awhile, but were eventually shuttled back to the Islander.

Andy slayed a nice goat.
